Meet the Owner

Serena L. Ghosio

Serena was raised on Long Island, NY and she grew up with a menagerie of animals ranging from domesticated to farm. Animals have played an important role in Serena’s life from childhood to present day. Over the years, Serena gained experience as a Veterinary Technician at small animal clinics and an emergency hospital.

In 2006, Serena moved to Tampa and continued working as a Veterinary Technician. On weekends, she hustled as a pet sitter, all while completing her Bachelors degree at the University of South Florida and Masters degree at Saint Leo University.

In 2011, Serena began her journey into law enforcement; attending the academy at night and on weekends. Shortly after graduation, she was hired by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. Serena was a patrol Deputy, she was a member of a multi-agency taskforce for violent offenders and she spent several years in a prestigious detective position. While her career was moving in a different direction, her love for animals always remained the same. During her time in law enforcement, Serena and her husband, Nick built a life centered around their dogs. The dogs were a positive outlet. Serena made the decision to leave law enforcement and in April of 2021, Bravo K9 was fully operational.

You may be asking yourself … what does she know about dogs?

Serena has an innate ability to identify certain dog behaviors (through observation of body language, cues and personality traits), and because of this, she is able to provide a safe environment for your fur baby. Serena understands the difficulty in finding a place that you trust, especially if your dog has specific needs.

Serena is a problem solver and that is exactly what she did with the creation of Bravo K9. Bravo K9 meets her standards for exceptional dog care. We are a stress-free and safe environment that provides peace of mind for you AND your dog.

The Evolution of Bravo K9

Since Italy holds a special place in the hearts of Serena and Nick, it was important to incorporate it into the business model. In translation from Italian to English, “Bravo” means “Good Boy,” which is the best description for their Belgian Malinois, Mako.

We’ve all heard the phrase “there is that one dog that will change your life.”

Mako is THAT dog!

Mako introduced Serena and Nick to the dog industry, specifically the remarkably diverse world of competitive dog sports.  It did not take long for Serena and Mako to become addicted as they both share a competitive trait; a desire to be better.

In the years that Serena has been training and competing with Mako, she has been paying attention: listening, watching and most importantly, learning.

Think about how much love, time and expense you pour into your dog. Why does this mindset change when it comes to daycare and overnight boarding?

Why is okay to send your dog to an overpacked, loud facility that is being supervised by a person who has no vested interest in your dogs care? Is truly safe and manageable for 20+ dogs to be in one play group? Why do you have to pay extra for someone to play ball with your dog? Or for the facility to send you an update with a photo? Or to administer medication?

The care your dog receives when you are away from them is crucial to their mental and physical well-being. Whether you have a competition sport dog or a couch potato that holds the #1 position for being the best cuddle buddy, Serena understands your dog is more than “just a pet.”

If you know Serena on a work, personal or competitive level, you know she is relentless.  This innate quality guarantees exceptional care while ensuring your dog is safe and comfortable during their stay at Bravo K9.

We look forward to you joining our pack!
